What you really need to know about your wooden Wood Works board
When using your Skottsberg Wood Works board there are four key moments: before use, during use, after use and when re-oiling. We’ve gathered the best tips to help extend your board’s lifespan and preserve the natural beauty of the wood. That way your board stays practical and remains a showpiece in your kitchen for years to come.
Before use
- Wipe it down
Remove the packaging and wipe the board with a dry or slightly damp cloth before first use. This makes it fresh and ready to go. - Ready to use
Your Wood Works board has already been treated with two layers of Tung oil. This makes it ready to use and water-repellent, no pre-oiling needed.
During use
- Use both sides
Turn your board regularly and use both sides. This prevents wear on one side and helps it stay flat longer. - Avoid extreme conditions
Don’t use your board as a trivet for hot pans or dishes as this can damage the wood.
After use / cleaning
- Hand wash only
Rinse the board under warm water and use a brush or sponge. Dish soap is usually not necessary. - Not dishwasher safe
Never put your board in the dishwasher. Heat and moisture can cause the wood to crack or warp. - Dry immediately
Pat the board dry with a soft cloth and place it upright. This allows both sides to dry evenly and prevents warping. Never leave it flat as one side will dry faster and cause the board to bend.
Re-oiling
- When to oil
Over time wood can dry out. If your board starts to look lighter or absorbs water more quickly it’s time to re-oil. - How to oil
Apply a thin layer of Tung oil with a lint-free cloth. Let it soak in, wipe off any excess oil and allow the board to dry thoroughly. For the full method check our oiling guide. - Repeat regularly
The more often you use your board the more often it needs care. For daily use we recommend oiling once a month, for less frequent use once a quarter is enough.
