Pizza in the pan, just over the fire? Absolutely, and surprisingly good too. This pan pizza is everything you want: easy, quick and full of flavour. Think crispy base, melted cheese, fresh rocket and salty prosciutto – all straight from your cast iron pan. No oven needed. Just good dough, a hot pan and a flame that you can feel on your face. This is pizza for outdoorsy people.
Ingredients for pan pizza

- Pizza dough
- Tomato sauce
- Grated cheese
- Fresh basil
- Fresh mozzarella
- Prosciutto ham
- Rocket
- Olive oil
Roll out your pizza dough into a sheet that fits in your pan. Spread it with tomato sauce and sprinkle grated cheese and a few basil leaves on top.
Heat a cast iron frying pan over an open flame or on the BBQ. A drizzle of oil is enough. Carefully place the topped dough in the pan and optionally put a lid on it. Let it cook until the base is crispy and the cheese is well melted.
Remove the pan from the heat and top the warm pizza with fresh mozzarella, thin slices of prosciutto, a handful of rocket and a few drops of olive oil. Simple, fresh and bursting with flavour.
Cut the pizza into slices immediately and serve warm from the pan, or place it on a wooden serving board.
Outdoor cooking tip:
For the perfect pan pizza, use a cast iron pan with a well-fitting lid. This way you get a crispy base and melted cheese on top. Cooking over a wood fire? Place some coals on the lid for a real oven effect.
Enjoy your meal!
